Milford & Witley Veterans 1–3 Headley Veterans First
Sunday 21 September 2025 – Division One, Milford Heath Road
Headley delivered a strong statement this morning, producing a composed 3–1 away victory that was built on discipline, organization, and smart finishing. With James Small making a notable return in goal, the back four exuded a sense of assurance and confidence throughout the match. Headley’s breakthrough came at the 34-minute mark when Marius Melinte expertly drilled home after receiving a clever pass from Paul Oliver, showcasing excellent teamwork. Just moments later, in the 38th minute, Nick Oram-Tooley doubled the advantage with a composed low strike that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance to respond.
After the interval, Headley maintained their momentum and stayed on the front foot — Melinte struck again in the 55th minute, reacting quickest inside the area to extend the lead to an impressive 3–0. Although a late consolation goal for the home side barely dented Headley’s confidence, it did little to overshadow an otherwise dominant display. The midfield trio of Barry Parker, Ionut Ratoi, and Grant Stapleton effectively bossed possession, dictating the tempo of the game, while Travis Martin and Simon Gordon worked tirelessly to keep the defensive line compact and organized.
Overall, it was a professional away performance that showcased precisely the response the manager had hoped for after a challenging week one, indicating that the team was ready to contend effectively this season.
Man of the Match honors went to Marius Melinte for his standout performance, which included two goals and tireless link-up play, further proving his vital role in the squad.
